Cosby verdict is justice at last

-

Brick, N.J.: I am very pleased with the guilty verdict for Bill Cosby. I hope in the future to see justice done in the Harvey Weinstein case as well. I have personally experienced sexual harassment. Nothing was done about it because I was not believed, just like these many women who had the courage to come forward were not believed. I was subjected to ridicule and disbelief.

The issue was never resolved. Now I have two daughters, two granddaughters and a grandson. I hope the new climate will now give them the knowledge and the knowhow not to be taken advantage of by anyone no matter who they are. Thank you, Gloria Allred!

Mary Ann Daniele Brooklyn: Now that Cosby has been convicted, perhaps Camille Cosby can wipe that holier-than-thou smirk off her face. What he did was reprehensible and I really hope that in spite of his age, he can serve some jail time. Sylvia Johnson

Politics over decency

Wayne, N.J.: Re Voicer Michael Velsmid’s strange defense of Bill Cosby. Cosby wasn’t “blacklisted” by progressives because he supposedly “espoused conservative values.” If you weren’t paying attention, he was found guilty of committing three counts of sexual assault. He was actually shown leniency by the court, as anyone else found guilty of those crimes would have been put in prison directly after the verdict. And the court hasn’t even heard countless other accusations from victims of his “conservative values.” If it were Velsmid’s mother, sister, wife or daughter who had been assaulted, I have a sense his defense would sound a bit different. Once again, true victims are trampled on for the sake of defending a political party. There are more colors in the world than just red and blue. David Stein

Not so conservative

Manhattan: To Voicer Michael Velsmid: I do not know what planet you came from, but hopefully, you are the last of a dying breed. Bill Cosby made the fateful mistake of drugging and having nonconsensual sex with innocent women who trusted him. He betrayed and violated his victims. Pure and simple. There was nothing “conservative” in Cosby’s calculated behavior, which you couch with political metaphors. “America’s Dad” committed acts that are serious crimes in most civilized countries, and certainly are in America — even Donald Trump’s America. Regrettably, you can’t handle the truth.

Trump waffles over a hero

North Miami, Fla.: I am an ardent Trump supporter and frankly am quite surprised at the silence from our President regarding the heroic actions of James Shaw Jr. (“Trump loves his heroes — only whites need apply,” column, April 26). Shaw should be rightly credited with ending the recent mass shooting at the Waffle House. Thanks solely to his quick thinking and brave actions, many lives were spared. He has admitted that his motivation was self-preservation, which makes him not only a hero but a candidly honest person as well. I personally thank you for your courage and actions, Mr. Shaw, and nominate you for the highest civilian award given by our country. I pray you will be given this award by President Trump, in the White House, with all the pomp and ceremony you deserve. I can see no valid reason why this event will not occur, so congratulations in advance for this high honor which you so justly deserve.

Travis Ogle

White House moron and idiot

Bellerose: John Kelly and Rex Tillerson are right.

Peter O’Connor

Comedic roots

Mount Vernon, N.Y.: I don’t know why people were shocked that Michelle Wolf’s standup routine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was biased against the right. They should have known what they were going to get when she walked out. All of her hair is on the left side of her head.

Comedy is alive and well

Cedar Grove, N.J.: To Voicer Gerard Haran: Comedy isn’t dying. You’ve arrived at a conclusion based on a sample size of one. I think that comedy is under attack by the current powers that be, because the current powers that be are incapable of laughing at themselves and hate being ridiculed, even in a joking way. Too bad. Comedy will survive long after the current powersthat-be have been buried in the pages of history. Keith Biesiada

No-talent comic

Glendale: Comedienne? Really? Michelle Wolf was supposed to be funny? She was just plain insulting and disgusting. Can she do what Sarah Huckabee Sanders does? Absolutely not. Remember Bob Hope and Red Skelton; now, those were comedians. Made you laugh, you felt good, you enjoyed it. Nobody got insulted. Wolf was just plain disgusting. Rosie Stine

Upside-down world

Bronx: Dear outraged Voicers: To get so upset about a clearly stated comedy act, and yet be accepting about blatant and profound dishonesty, ignorance and all-around erratic behavior from a person in a position of immense power and importance, shows that you have all gone off the effing rails. Would one of you please tell me how the most immoral person in government is supported by professed Christians? Where in the gospels does Jesus tell us to be greedy, boastful and self-absorbed?

Randall Borra

Ugly left

Port Jefferson, L.I.: Michelle Wolf is just a reminder of what a bunch of lowlifes the left are and how the media feeds off the insults like vultures. They salivate every time they speak about the President. They are extremely disrespectful, dishonest and disgraceful; they are nothing but evil hypocrites, all of them. I believe in karma and it’s coming sooner than you think.

Grace Formatora

Whose lies?

Ridgewood, N.J.: Israel has lied about its nuclear program for decades. Bibi’s hatred of things Persian is biblical.

Peter J. Peirano

No Earth for bikes

East Elmhurst: To Voicer Suzy E. Sandor: Earth Day in New York City should be kept only for pedestrians. No bikes allowed. Bikes are a menace when mixed with pedestrians. Bikes have their own occasions — bike around Manhattan and other such projects. Gerson Fernandes

Acceptable bigotry

East Islip, L.I.: Your April 25 cover makes fun of Mike Francesa’s word pronunciations and uses the image of a Pope. I guess male whites and Christians are exempt from political correctness. You would never do so to other races or religions. I can imagine the outrage. Am I wrong? Brandon Appier

Starbucks double standards

Staten Island: Regarding Voicer Frank Gallo’s letter, where he pointed out that if you occupy a table without buying something at Starbucks, you deprive a paying customer of a table. What about the people who buy a cup of coffee, spread all their study materials out along with their computer and study for a few hours? Or the tutor who meets students there for a session? Let’s not forget the business meetings

Lupica’s draft daft take

GETTY that are conducted over a cup of coffee for an hour or two or the self-employed who need to work without the normal household noise. Nothing is said to these people. I see it all the time.

Getting Mike and A-Rod right

Oak Bridge, N.J.: Loved the headline “Fraud Couple” (May 1)! Perfect description of these two glitter monkeys. Thanks for all the great sports reporting.

Janet Cecin Brimfield, Mass.: Hey, Mike Lupica, why don’t you just shut your piehole? Only you can find something wrong with the Giants drafting Saquon Barkely.

Boone’s missing Judge-ment

Bay Ridge: Aaron Boone apparently doesn’t understand that some games are much more important than others. His team had won nine straight and is on a roll. Now he’s going to rest Aaron Judge? While playing the defending World Series champs Astros — the team that knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs last year? Earlier this season, Boone sat Brett Gardner, leadoff hitter and longest tenured Yankee, in the opener against the Red Sox. This makes no sense either. Sit your regulars against the likes of the White Sox, Royals and Marlins. Brian Cashman better step in and have a sit-down about this issue. To most supporters of the team, it’s absurd.
