Students stage pro-gun walkout
STUDENTS ACROSS the country participated Wednesday in the gun-rights “Stand for the Second” answer to gun violence protests.
Organizer Will Riley, 18, a senior at Carlsbad High School in New Mexico, said students in 300 schools in some 40 states walked out of their classes for 16 minutes.
That was one minute less than the March 14 National Students Walkout in which protesters left their classrooms and remained outside for 17 minutes to honor the 17 people gunned down Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Wednesday’s demonstrations were significantly smaller than two anti-gun violence protests.
