Stiffed film aides steer $517G deal
These street fighters have gotten a blockbuster deal.
Film production assistants who said they were underpaid for performing the unenviable task of reserving parking spots on city streets for movie and TV shoots have reached a $517,595 settlement with Amazon Studios.
The agreement ends a class-action settlement brought by 170 PAs who said they weren’t paid overtime for their work in blocking spaces so film crew trailers can park on neighborhood streets.
“We believe the settlement is fair and reasonable,” said Sara Wyn Kane, one of the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
The settlement agreement was submitted in Manhattan Federal Court on Monday for a judge’s approval.
Kane’s firm has won nearly a dozen settlements with other studios — including Sony Pictures, NBC Universal Media and Warner Bros. Television — on behalf of the parking-spot production assistants.
