North Korea to release 3 Yanks: Rudy
FALLOUT FROM GIULIANI INTERVIEW
PRESIDENT Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said a trio of Americans detained in North Korea would be released Thursday — a move not confirmed by the White House or evidenced by any announcement.
The former mayor has no formal role in the Trump administration and did not provide details of the possible release.
“We’ve got Kim Jong Un impressed enough to release three prisoners today,” he told Fox News on Thursday.
Trump hinted in a tweet a day earlier that a deal was in the works — adding to speculation that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be willing to make the gesture before a planned summit between the pair. The White House did not make any announcements regarding the trio, and a State Department spokesman told the Daily News the agency could not confirm the validity of Giuliani’s statements.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said only that such a move would be an “incredible” step forward and a “sign of good will.”
“We can’t confirm the validity of the reports currently out about their release,” Sanders said. Asked if Giuliani has the authority to speak on behalf of the administration, Sanders was curt in her response. “Not that I’m aware of,” she said.
