Bible shoutout at immig rally to back Ragbir
ABOUT 60 people gathered outside the Manhattan Federal Building on Thursday to take part in an immigration protest that had Biblical overtones.
The group with the New Sanctuary Coalition circled the building seven times to draw attention to what they said are injustices in federal immigration laws.
A day before immigration activist Ravi Ragbir is to appear in Newark Federal Court for a hearing on his 2000 criminal conviction, immigration rights activists and supporters marched around Manhattan’s Federal Building calling for justice.
The “Jericho Walk” has been held several times as immigration activists complain of the inequities and injustices of the deportation laws.
The group let out a primal scream intended to symbolically bring down the walls, echoing the tale of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho.
The protest was organized ahead of the Friday hearing for Ragbir, in which he hopes to be granted a stay of his deportation on a 2000 fraud conviction while he seeks to have his conviction tossed.
The Jericho walk is “a prayerful vigil to ask for help,” Ragbir said.
