VP doc quits amid med office mess
VICE PRESIDENT Pence’s doctor abruptly resigned Friday, putting a twist on the misconduct scandal that embroiled White House physican Ronny Jackson.
Dr. Jennifer Pena, a military physician assigned to Pence, was among a number of White House staffers who came forward with misconduct allegations against Jackson after President Trump tapped him to become Veterans Affairs secretary last month. Jackson withdrew his name from consideration.
Pena privately raised concerns that Jackson, who is Trump’s personal physician, had violated medical privacy protections for Pence’s wife, Karen, according to memos first reported by CNN earlier this week. Pena also alleged Jackson angrily confronted her over the complaint.
A spokeswoman for Pence confirmed to the Daily News that the White House medical unit accepted Pena’s resignation Friday afternoon, but declined to comment on the reason for her departure. Pena could not be immediately reached for comment.
