MIKE TO GET ‘MENTAL BREAK’

-

If there were ever a perfect time for Michael Conforto to break out of his slump, the ninth inning Friday night was it. The Mets were down six runs but pulled to within one, the tying run was on third and the winning run was on second. Conforto struck out to end the game, earning his fourth career golden sombrero as he went 0-for-5 in the Mets’ loss to the Rockies. Conforto is hitting just .187 this season in 75 at-bats.

“That’s the spot you want to do it,” Conforto said.

He’ll sit for Brandon Nimmo Saturday as Mickey Callaway feels Conforto, who’s coming off serious shoulder surgery, needs a “mental break.” The manager also said Conforto is “maybe pressing” somewhat.
