British envoy sees hope for Iran nuke deal

- Esha Ray

THE BRITISH ambassador to the United States thinks it’s still possible to address President Trump’s concerns about the Iran nuclear deal in time to prevent him from pulling out of the agreement by the end of the week.

Kim Darroch said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that United Kingdom senior officials and European allies were “making progress” on negotiations with Trump, calling the agreement a “good deal” but “not a perfect deal.”

Trump has until Saturday to decide if the United States will withdraw from the pact, which waives international sanctions on Iran.

As part of the 2015 deal, Iran must reduce its uranium stockpile.

The President has repeatedly slammed the deal, calling it a “horrible agreement” as recently as last week.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned the United States on Sunday that withdrawing from the nuclear agreement would be a “historic mistake” and that Iran has plans for “whatever decision is made by Trump.”

Meanwhile on Sunday, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of supplying advanced weapons to Syria.

Israel has repeatedly warned it will not tolerate a lasting Iranian military presence in neighboring Syria.
