Prez-blessed GOPers win in primaries

TRUMP-BACKED candidates beat out challengers in Republican primaries across the country Tuesday.

In West Virginia’s Republican U.S. Senate race, state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey roundly beat controversial candidate Don Blankenship, an ex-coal baron a year out of federal prison after a conviction for conspiring to violate federal mine safety standards.

In a state where Trump claimed his largest margin of victory in 2016, Republican voters heeded warnings from the President and his allies in Washington against supporting Blankenship.

Morrisey will take on incumbent Joe Manchin in November.

In Indiana, political novice Greg Pence, 61, the brother of the vice president, won the GOP congressional primary against selffunded entrepreneur Jonathan Lamb.

Pence, a failed businessman, spent nearly $1 million, dodged public debates and rode his sibling’s coattails to the general election in the fall. Voters who cast ballots for Pence cited his more famous brother and support for Trump as reasons for backing him.
