@Parents defend chancellor
PARENTS, activists and city officials tweeted support for the schools chancellor Tuesday, a day after he took heat from a parent who called his school integration comments “divisive.”
A month into his job, Chancellor Richard Carranza, 51, got flak on “The Brian Lehrer Show” Monday for tweeting a video news story April 27 that accused “wealthy white Manhattan parents” of ranting against a plan to desegregate Upper West Side middle schools. A WNYC caller said she felt left out of Carranza’s constituency because of the tweet.
“When you challenge the status quo, they will come for you,” NYC Coalition for Educational Justice Coordinator Natasha Capers, who’s also a public school parent, tweeted Tuesday.
“We got your back @DOEChancellor.”
