Get tickets by being a face in the crowd
YOU MAY NO longer be just a face in the crowd.
Megalithic ticketseller Live Nation just invested in biometric identification company Blink Identity, bringing it a step closer to replacing tickets with facial recognition.
In a note summarizing Live Nation’s 2018 first quarter result, CEO Michael Rapino said that the biometric technology would allow concertgoers to “associate your digital ticket with your image, then just walk into the show.”
Blink Identity’s co-founders Mary Haskett and Dr. Alex Kilpatrick have developed large scale biometric identification systems for the Department of Defense, and the company’s sensors have been deployed at U.S. miliary bases around the world, according to business’s website.
The potential innovation would cut down on lines, but could raise privacy concerns.
The new technology would force venues to begin using surveillance equipment, while Live Nation subsidiary, Ticketmaster, would need to maintain a database of all its customers’ faces.
