Johnny Football hospitalized after medication scare
Johnny Manziel was hospitalized Monday night in Humble, Texas, due to a prescription medication scare.
“Thank you everyone for your concern and kind messages,” Manziel said in a statement. “Unfortunately I had a reaction to an increased dosage in Lithium which I take for my Bipolar disorder. It was a scary moment and I’m especially grateful for the staff at the hospital and all that they’ve done in the last 24 hours.”
Manziel revealed his bipolar diagnosis to “Good Morning America” in February.
“It seems like he had a reaction to an adjustment in his prescription. He’s fine and headed home,” Denise Michaels, a spokesperson for Manziel, told TMZ on Tuesday.
According to the report, Manziel was in the area for the JMBLYA musical festival after playing in former Texas A&M teammate Mike Evans’ golf tournament.
Last week, the Dallas Police Department released a police report from the 2016 incident in which Colleen Crowley, Manziel’s ex-girlfriend, accused Manziel of assaulting her. Manziel was indicted on an assault charge but later reached a plea agreement, according to which he had to undergo counseling and anger management and have his conduct monitored for up to one year.
Per the police report, Crowley said she “felt like she was going to die or get beaten really bad.” Photos released with the report show visible bruises on Crowley’s body.
Manziel has been visible lately in various media mediums as he attempts to return to professional football. In the “GMA” interview, Manziel said he’s also dealt with alcohol and mental health issues. The 25-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner last played in the NFL in 2015. He recently played in the Spring League.
