Alec tells of odd request

ACTOR ALEC BALDWIN said he was asked not to question former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman about #MeToo or his relationships with women in a podcast recorded last Thursday, just days before the disgraced politician’s sudden resignation.

Baldwin told the Daily News on Tuesday that he’d initially planned to post the 37-minute episode of NPR’s “Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin” closer to the end of the month, but decided after four women accused Schneiderman of physical abuse, that the interview should be made available as soon as possible. “Looking back on our preparations with his office, there were signs maybe something was amiss,” Baldwin said at the top of the show. “His communications director requested, surprisingly to us, that we not mention the Harvey Weinstein case, or #MeToo or the attorney general’s past relationships.”

But the AG’s office told The News that no such request was made and that WNYC producers and Baldwin later realized what was said was inaccurate and took that sentence out of the podcast.

On Monday, The New Yorker published a bombshell story in which four women who “had romantic relationship or encounters” with the 63-year-old city native accused him of committing acts of violence against them. Two accusers claimed Schneiderman “hit them, often after drinking, frequently in bed and never with their consent.”

Schneiderman, vocal advocate of the #MeToo movement, said it was consensual role-playing.

Nearly 25 minutes into the podcast, Baldwin delicately asked Schneiderman about #MeToo and if he’s correct in saying that topic was off the table.

“Well, we have an investigation into the Weinstein companies that are involved with a variety of matters related to that. So, uh, can’t touch on that,” Schneiderman said. “I mean, look, the movement is extraordinary. I think it’s changing the conversation.” a
