‘U’ bet she’s going to fight Prez on climate
ALBANY — New York’s new top lawyer is picking up where disgraced ex-Attorney General Eric Schneiderman left off when it comes to challenging the Trump administration.
Acting Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced Wednesday that her office had filed new legal objections in an ongoing court battle to stop the rollback of Obamaera environmental regulations.
Schneiderman, who officially resigned Tuesday after The New Yorker reported that he physically assaulted four women, had filed dozens of lawsuits challenging Trump administration policies.
“This office's commitment to protecting New Yorkers from the devastating impacts of climate change is unwavering,” Underwood, who was the state’s solicitor general under Schneiderman, said in a statement.
New York is part of a coalition of more than a dozen states and cities that is fighting against the Trump administration’s attempt to dismantle the Clean Power Plan, which sought to curb greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
The Environmental Protection Agency has asked a federal court to suspend the lawsuits brought by New York and the other entities seeking to block the roll back.
“Our coalition has long fought to defend the Clean Power Plan, including strongly opposing the EPA's efforts to block court review of its legality,” Underwood said.
