Finest journey, best of causes
NYPD TOP COP James O’Neill hopped on a bike and pedaled into the Holland Tunnel on Wednesday as part of a four-day cycle trip honoring fallen police officers.
O’Neill (right) and some 250 officers set off from the World Trade Center memorial for the Police Unity Tour.
The police commissioner, though, planned to ride just the first leg, ending on the New Jersey side of the tunnel, of the more than 200-mile trip to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington.
“We’re here for the people killed in the line of duty and we’re here for their families, too,” O’Neill said.
The bike tour has twin goals — to raise awareness of fallen cops as well as money for the memorial in Washington, which receives no public funding.
The memorial features the names of more than 21,000 law enforcement officers nationwide who died in the line of duty.
