A dog-eat-dog world for man

- BY GRAHAM RAYMAN

THE FUR FLEW Friday morning in Central Park when two unleashed dogs attacked a third canine and an Upper West Side man.

John Traynor told the Daily News he was walking his two dogs, Siri and Lulu, near Cedar Hill south of the Met before 9 a.m., when he saw a large black dog chomping down on a fluffy labradoodle.

The owner of the black dog, who also had a Rhodesian Ridgeback with him, appeared to be hanging back and not doing anything about it, Traynor said.

“He seemed not to be in control,” Traynor said. “I tried to help the (labradoodle’s owner) by grabbing the black dog, which still had the labradoodle’s head in its jaws.”

Traynor said he yelled “Control it!” at the black dog’s owner, who finally got involved and put a harness on his dog.

Just then, the Ridgeback attacked Traynor.

“The dog jumped on me and bit me on the hand and I got upset,” Traynor said. “He (the owner) refused to give me his name or identification, and the Ridgeback was circling me threateningly.”

Siri and Lulu sat out the kerfuffle. Traynor grabbed them and went off in search of a police officer.

“I thought it was best for me to get out of there,” he said. “I found a police officer near Tavern on the Green and filed a report.”

Traynor declined medical attention at the scene, but was treated for the gash in his hand later Friday.

It was not clear how badly hurt the labradoodle was.

Traynor, a marketing consultant, posted pictures from the encounter on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, in hopes someone will identify the owner of the miscreant canines.

“The police would like his name,” he said. “We’re asking people to help ID this guy.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed a report had been filed.
