45 stories have happy ending

-

A DARING CREW of cops and firefighters rescued two window washers who ended up getting stuck in a scaffolding carriage 45 stories up on the side of a Tribeca skyscraper Friday morning, officials said.

The men, ages 36 and 44, were trapped about 8:20 a.m. when the wind caught their carriage and slammed it several times against the building, smashing windows (inset top) on the 64-story tower on Murray St. near Greenwich St. and sending glass raining down on the street.

The impacts caused the carriage’s cables to become twisted, making it inoperable.

When the rescue workers arrived the carriage was sticking out from the building. Firefighters and cops from the Emergency Service Unit used a line to free the carriage and pull it back to the side of the building (inset bottom).

After the carriage was secured, the rescue crew helped the workers climb into the building.

The workers were safely inside just after 9 a.m.

“Great Job by NYPD ESU & FDNY with the rescue of 2 people from a malfunctioning scaffold,” the NYPD Special Operations Division tweeted. Neither worker was injured. A pedestrian hit by falling glass declined medical attention, officials said.
