Man faces more time for bogus early release bid

- Andrew Keshner

A MAN’S crooked bid for an early prison release could land him extra jail time.

Richard Marshall pleaded guilty Friday to plotting to give a false statement to prison authorities.

Brooklyn federal prosecutors say Marshall, 56, coordinated with his Queens lawyer, Scott Brettschneider, and others to cook up a bogus letter to the Bureau of Prisons.

The November 2014 letter said Marshall deserved a release into residential rehab, a move that could have shaved a year off Marshall’s three-year sentence.

But Marshall didn’t have a drug and alcohol problem, even though he was locked up on a drug dealing case.

In March, the feds unveiled the case against Brettschneider, Marshall and two other men. Marshall is scheduled for sentencing in August.
