‘Grope’ teach rejects a 4-yr. prison offer
A VETERAN high school teacher was offered up to four years in prison by Brooklyn prosecutors if he pleads guilty to groping and sexually abusing a teen boy.
Mervyn Affoon faces up to seven years if convicted of engaging in illegal sexual conduct with a 16-yearold at the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Erasmus High School and in his East Flatbush home. The abuse took place over an eight-month period, from February 2017 until the teen told his parents in October, authorities have said .
Brooklyn prosecutors offered the 65-year-old Affoon (photo inset) 11/2 to four years in prison if he pleads guilty to promoting a sexual performance of child charge.
“We will not take the offer,” Affoon’s attorney, Mark Pollard, said outside of court. “Mr. Affoon maintains his innocence.”
Affoon, a 12-year veteran, was removed from the classroom.
The teen’s attorney, Scott Rynecki, filed a notice of claim seeking $11 million against the Education Department.
