CC bets court ruling won’t affect players

- BY MIKE MAZZEO

WASHINGTON — CC Sabathia doesn’t think the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize sports gambling is going to have an impact on the players.

“I mean, I don’t think it changes anything for us,” Sabathia said Tuesday. “We still can’t bet on baseball. So it doesn’t do anything for us.

“I guess it’ll be easier to place a bet for the Raiders,” Sabathia joked of his favorite NFL team.

Sabathia wasn’t concerned about the game’s integrity not being maintained as a result.

“Nah. Nah. I think we’ll be fine,” the veteran lefty said.

Aaron Boone wasn’t exactly sure how he felt about the topic yet.

“I don’t know. I know Major League Baseball is probably very proactive in taking every step possible to make sure we preserve the integrity of our game,” the Yankee manager said.

“I think that we protect the safety of players and umpires and everything.

“I know people gamble on sports now, legally and illegally. Hopefully not much changes other than some good things, but I don’t know how I feel about it yet. I look at it in terms of our game and our player safety and hopefully neither of those are compromised.”

Brian Cashman didn’t want to comment.

“I’ll be honest, it’s above my pay grade so I don’t have an opinion on that at this point,” the GM said.

“I’ll let our commissioner’s office speak to that and then once they’ve done that and showed their feelings, then I’ll fall in line.”
