Bartolo guts out win over Seattle
Bartolo Colon laughed off having a line drive hit him in the stomach, allowing four hits in 7.2 shutout innings and giving Texas a 5-1 win in Seattle on Wednesday. On the cusp of his 45th birthday, Colon (2-1) was excellent spotting his fastball and using his breaking pitches to keep Seattle off balance, a night after the Mariners scored nine runs.
l Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run homer and J.D. Martinez added a two-run shot to lead Boston over Oakland, 6-4.
l The Los Angeles Dodgers erased a four-run deficit and still lost their sixth game in a row when J.T. Realmuto’s tiebreaking homer in the sixth inning helped host Miami win, 6-5.
l In his second start for the Reds, Matt Harvey allowed three runs, seven hits and four walks in four innings and Scooter Gennett homered to help Cincinnati avoid a sweep in San Francisco.
l Nick Pivetta tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts, Cesar Hernandez homered and Philadelphia beat host Baltimore, 4-1.
Jonathan Marchessault scored 35 seconds into the game to lead host Vegas to a 4-2 win over Winnipeg in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. Vegas took a 2-1 series lead as James Neal and Alex Tuch scored less than three minutes apart in the second period after Mark Scheifele (two goals) tied the score at 1.
