YANKGAMEDAY
GAME 41: May 18, 2018 Where: Kauffman Stadium
KANSAS CITY — After looking like a juggernaut against the AL’s best, the Yankees played down to their competition on Friday night.
The Bombers, who had played just six innings the previous four days combined, looked out of sorts in a 5-2 loss to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
Gleyber Torres made a pair of misplays in the field — which essentially resulted in three Royals runs.
Torres dropped a blooper by Salvador Perez with runners on the corners and one out in the first inning, which resulted in an RBI fielder’s choice and a 1-0 deficit.
Three innings later, with the bases loaded and two outs, Torres bobbled a John Jay grounder that should’ve ended the inning, the error resulting in a run. CC Sabathia then walked in the next batter to force in another run and make it 3-0 Royals.
CC Sabathia allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings — including a solo shot by Perez in the fifth. He walked four and struck out five. Sabathia came in with a 3.42 career ERA pitching in K.C. The Yankees scored both of their runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Neil Walker and a sacrifice fly from Miguel Andujar.
