The special day featured many homages to the groom’s mother, killed 21 years earlier in a Paris car crash. Markle, at 36, was the same age on her wedding day as Diana was when she died in 1997.
Markle’s bouquet was hand-picked by Harry and filled with forget-menot flowers, a favorite of Diana.
The couple specifically chose them “to honor the memory of the late princess on this special day,” Kensington palace said in a statement. The chapel was also covered in white garden roses, another favorite flower of Diana. As previously reported, Markle’s sparkling engagement ring featured two diamonds on the outside that belonged to his late mother.
The couple, named earlier in the day as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, headed to their evening reception inside a sleek silver-blue 1968 Jaguar.
Markle, accompanied by her mother Doria Ragland, arrived at the church in the queen’s RollsRoyce Phantom. Her father, recovering from emergency heart surgery, could not attend.
The groom changed into a tuxedo after wearing a full military frockcoat and white gloves — as did his older brother and best man, Prince William.
