Spirits revived for Carib Week
For the city’s vast CaribbeanAmerican population and the area’s many visitors to the region, the “Caribbean Week New York” is homecoming of sorts. Starting June 3 with the free, inspirational “Revival for the Caribbean” affair, Caribbean Week — presented by the Barbados-based Caribbean Tourism Organization — brings tourism VIPs diplomats and travel professionals to the city and offers special events for the public.
The kickoff “Revival” event — in response to the Caribbean region’s rebound after the intense 2017 hurricane season — will be held in the fifth-floor auditorium of Meredith Global Corp., 225 Liberty St., in Manhattan’s Financial District. The program is open to the public and starts at 4 p.m.

The “Rum & Rhythm Benefit and Auction” on June 9, benefitting the CTO’s Scholarship Foundation; “Celebrity Chef Program” demonstrations throughout the week at Bloomingdale’s and Williams-Somona stores (www.caribbeanweek.com/events/chef-program) in Manhattan; and the purple, blue, green, orange, red and magenta lighting of the Empire State Building on June 6 are some of the public happenings for Caribbean Week.

Bronx ‘Spring’ Health series
Your health is top on the agenda of the new “Spring into Fitness” health and wellness series which concludes Thursday in the Bronx Terminal Market, 610 Exterior St., not far from Yankee Stadium.
The series closer includes a special martial arts training session by McKay Strength, popular celebrity trainer Ngo Okafor, an information-filled “Wellness Walkabout!” and initiatives from Bronx-based businesses and institutions.

Nearly $600G for Jamaica groups
Organizations in Jamaica — improving education, computer literacy, health, battling abuse and sexual violence against children and groups dedicated to a myriad of causes — received a piece of close to $600,000 in grant funding from the American Friends of Jamaica last week. Haiti Flag Day & more
Marking the revered anniversary of Haiti’s flag and honoring several distinguished Haitian-Americans, Council Member Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn) held his annual Haitian Flag Day Celebration and Awards last Friday , at Bklyn Commons in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
Haitian Flag Day commemorates the creation of the Caribbean nation's first flag in 1803.
Williams — along with and Assembly Members Rodneyse Bichotte, Assembly Member Nick Perry, State Senator Kevin Parker, and Borough President Eric Adams and community leaders — announced the establishment of the "Little Haiti" business and cultural district in Brooklyn. There were also street conamings — Toussaint LOuverture Blvd. for portions of Nostrand Ave. and parts of Rogers Ave. named for Haitian Revolution leader Jean-Jacques Dessalines.
