The Bergen County Technical School District offers Bergen County high school students Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study on four unique campuses in Hackensack, Teterboro, and Paramus. These programs differ in their curriculum offerings, from IB and AP classes at the Bergen County Academies to shared-time options at Bergen Tech/Paramus, but they all offer students the option to choose specialized areas of study in STEM, skilled trades, and the arts and humanities.

is located on the Paramus Campus of Bergen Community College (BCC). ATHS provides a model for the development of educationindustry partnership. The program was developed in collaboration with leaders in industry including Stryker Orthopaedics and Triangle Industries, and is operated in partnership with postsecondary partners BCC and New Jersey Institute of Technology, among others.

is one of the first career academies in New Jersey to implement a project-based, articulated, career-driven educational model. BCA offers students AP and IB classes and career-related majors in Business/Finance, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Administration, Engineering and Design Technology, Medical Science Technology, Technology and Computer Science, Visual & Performing Arts (including Music Technology), and Science and Technology.

provides students with a strong academic and technical foundation to pursue either postsecondary educational opportunities or entrance into the workforce upon graduation. The school is committed to serving the needs of students with both full-time and shared-time programs that provide training in eleven technical areas: Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Technology (A.S.E.), Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Green Building Trades, Healthcare Occupations, Information Technology, Landscape Design, Skin Care/Esthetician, Veterinary Assistant/Animal Care, and Visual & Graphic Design. All shared-time students are required to take an academic course each year to help meet the graduation requirements of the local sending district.

a USDOE recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, offers classes at the Honors, AP, and college levels. Teterboro’s nine CTE programs include the first NJDOE approved Culinology® Program of Study (POS) in the state. Other CTE programs offered at Teterboro include Strategic Asset Management, Law and Justice, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Digital and Media Arts (Broadcasting), Fashion Design and Merchandising, Automotive Engineering and Design, and Commercial Art and Graphic Design.

A vital component of CTE programs is the creation of partnerships between educational institutions, community organizations, government agencies, and the business sector. These alliances not only afford students with hands-on, real-world experiences, they also provide internship opportunities for students.

Our partnerships also present opportunities for collaboration in the crafting of unique and challenging projects that take learning out of the classroom, allowing students a glimpse into their chosen areas of interest. — Andrea Sheridan Assistant Superintendent Bergen County Technical Schools
