Ollie: Killer boys are all ‘on Ritalin’

- BY TERENCE CULLEN

INCOMING NRA President Oliver North tried to blame the rash of school shootings across the U.S., including the massacre at a Texas high school Friday, on video games and ADHD medication instead of access to firearms.

The gun lobby’s newest spokesman said the wave of killings were carried out by “young boys” who “have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten.”

“I am certainly not a doctor, I’m a Marine, but I can see those kinds of things happening,” North (photo) said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

His claim comes two days after teen gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis killed 10 of his classmates and teachers at Santa Fe High School with a handgun and a shotgun.

North, who gained notoriety in the 1980s for his role in the Iran-Contra affair, said access to firearms isn’t the problem — violent TV shows and movies are.

“The problem that we’ve got is we’re trying like the dickens to treat the symptom without treating the disease,” the 74-year-old retired lieutenant colonel said.

“And the disease in this case isn’t the Second Amendment. The disease is youngsters who are steeped in a culture of violence.”

There have been 22 confirmed school shootings in the U.S. since the year began, according to CNN.

Friday’s rampage was among the deadliest this year, along with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre that left 17 dead in Parkland, Fla., three months ago.

But North said the shooters were “drugged in many cases.”

“Nearly all of these perpetrators are male, and they’re young teenagers in most cases, and they’ve come through a culture where violence is commonplace,” he said. “All we need to do is turn on a TV, go to a movie.”

North, who was named to the gun lobbying group’s presidency earlier this month, also said he wants to add another 1 million members to the NRA’s cause.
