Council big backs Tish

- Erin Durkin

CITY COUNCIL Speaker Corey Johnson threw his support behind Letitia James on Monday in her campaign for state attorney general.

James, the city’s public advocate, is vying to replace ex-AG Eric Schneiderman after his abrupt resignation due to allegations of violence against women. She has picked up the endorsements of several big-name Democrats since launching her campaign last week.

“She is someone who has always shown a mettle and a grit in taking on tough fights,” Johnson said at a lower Manhattan press conference with James, who he predicted would win easily. “It’s gonna be a big win. It’s not gonna be close.”

James is looking to secure the nomination of the state Democratic Party at its convention on Long Island this week, and Johnson said he wanted to make his endorsement before she goes before the delegates.
