batali accused of 2nd sex assault:
‘Raped’ after blackout in Babbo
A SECOND WOMAN has come forward with claims she was drugged and raped by celebrity chef Mario Batali , police sources said, echoing claims made by a woman who revealed her allegations Sunday on “60 Minutes.”
The second alleged assault happened at Batali’s Babbo in 2004 and the victim went to police in March, according to sources with knowledge of the complaint.
The accuser told police she recalled drinking at the Waverly Place eatery around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2004, when she blacked out in the bathroom.
Sources said she told police that when she came to, Batali (inset) was having sex with her.
The victim believes she was drugged, sources said.
It’s not known where in the restaurant the alleged sexual assault took place.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
The allegation were eerily similar to the one revealed in an interview aired Sunday, when another woman told CBS’ Anderson Cooper that Batali drugged and raped her in 2005, in his West Village restaurant Spotted Pig.
Batali co-owns Babbo with his business partner Joseph Bastianich. A spokesman for their company, B&B Hospitality Group, called the allegations “chilling and deeply disturbing” and said in a statement Monday the business plans to end its partnership with Batali.
“We remain focused on two priorities: ensuring that our employees work with equal opportunity and freedom from discrimination; and continuing to give our guests amazing dining experiences,” spokesman Adam Goldberg said.
Batali, 57, stepped away from the company and ABC’s food show “The Chew” when sexual misconduct allegations began surfacing against him in December.
Police sources were unable to provide information on the Spotted Pig victim who revealed her claims to Cooper.
The woman said she met the restaurateur during a 2005 party. After a glass of wine, she blacked out and woke up with scratches and semen on her skirt.
“I woke up by myself on the floor, I don’t know where I am, (in) . . . an empty room, wooden floor. I see broken bottles. The first thing I think is, ‘I’ve been drugged,’” she said in the interview.
The woman said she spoke with an NYPD Special Victims Division detective but did not file a report.
