State, feds scrap over Bro’s dough
LAWYERS FOR the feds and the state are fighting over who gets the Pharma Bro’s cash first.
The IRS told state tax authorities Monday not to cut in line because it has first dibs on the income taxes Martin Shkreli owes.
Shkreli, 35, has a $7.36 million federal forfeiture order hanging over his head for his 2017 investor fraud convictions.
He also owes almost $1.7 million in 2015 federal income taxes and $480,000 in state taxes, court papers show. In April, the state’s lawyers said New York ought to get paid first. But the feds say they filed their tax lien first.
