‘Coke’ wasn’t the real thing

AN FDNY pension bigwig was not toting cocaine, as cops first believed, when he was busted for drunken driving in Midtown, his lawyer said Thursday.

Steve Cassidy (inset) was arrested after he lost control of his city-owned car, rolled onto the sidewalk and slammed into a dumpster on Seventh Ave. at W. 30th St. near Madison Square Garden May 9. He was charged with drunken driving and cocaine possession.

Cops said that in addition to being clearly intoxicated, they found a powder they thought was cocaine in a yellow envelope in his wallet.

But tests determined it was legal medication, according to a letter written by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

“It was not a controlled substance,” said Cassidy’s lawyer James Kilduff. “We anticipate that the criminal drug possession charge will be dismissed.”

Cassidy narrowly missed two pedestrians but no one was hurt. He tried to run away, but passersby held him for cops.

The 62-year-old yelled that he wanted to punch someone in the face, refused to take a Breathalyzer, and pretended to be a fire marshal, prosecutors said.

Cassidy, who served as president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association before his 2016 move to FDNY pension fund executive director, was fired after the crash.
