Meeting stirs new hope for Korea summit

THE ON-AGAIN, off-again summit between President Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un appeared back on track Saturday — and for its original June 12 date.

A White House team will depart for Singapore as scheduled “to prepare should the summit take place,” announced administration spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

A surprise Saturday meeting between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a border village further bolstered hopes that the summit with Trump would still take place.

Moon’s office said the two leaders discussed the potential meeting between Kim and Trump, and promised to release full details of their sessions on Sunday.

Trump, in a tweet taking a shot at The New York Times, said the June 12 target date remained in play for the two sides to discuss a halt to the North Korean nuclear program.

“WRONG AGAIN!” Trump tweeted about a Times report saying the June date was impossible because of the recent delays.

In a separate tweet, the President declared, “There is ZERO disagreement within the Trump administration as to how to deal with North Korea.”

The U.S. summit team will be led by Joe Hagin, Trump’s deputy chief of staff for operations.

On Friday, Trump brushed aside a question about whether Kim was delivering mixed messages regaring the summit in recent days. “Everybody plays games,” Trump said.
