Red Sox cruise by flat Jays

-

ANDREW Benintendi hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run fourth inning, J.D. Martinez added a solo homer and the Red Sox coasted to an 8-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Monday in Boston.

Benintendi also notched a triple and single, and Jackie Bradley Jr. added an RBI double, scored twice and made a spectacular catch in center field as Boston won for the seventh time in nine games.

It was the Blue Jays’ 11th loss in 15 games, dropping them to 2-5 against the Red Sox this season. Red Sox star Mookie Betts missed his second straight game because of tightness he felt in his left side during batting practice on Sunday.

U.S. TOPS BOLIVIA

Josh Sargent scored in his American debut, fellow 18-yearold Tim Weah added a goal in his second international match and a young United States team beat Bolivia, 3-0, in an exhibition soccer match in Chester, Pa.

With no World Cup to play for, interim U.S. coach Dave Sarachan went with youth. He gave six players their debuts, raising the total to 15 in four matches since the Americans were eliminated in qualifying.

WAWRINKA OUSTED

Like Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka is a French Open champion still working his way back into form after surgery.

Both men were in first-round action at Roland Garros on Monday, but unlike Djokovic, who won in straight sets, Wawrinka could not summon and sustain the sort of high-level play that has carried him to major titles in Paris and elsewhere. Returning to a place where he won the title in 2015 and made it back to the final a year ago, Wawrinka bowed out with a 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 loss to 67th-ranked Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain.

YALE TAKES LAX CROWN

Jack Tigh scored 36 seconds into the game for his first of three goals in the opening half, and Matt Gaudet scored four goals as Yale beat Duke, 13-11, in Foxborough, Mass. to win its first NCAA lacrosse title.
