Runner hit by biker sues PA

A MARATHON runner who broke his arm when a bike hit him on the George Washington Bridge athletic path is suing the Port Authority for $2 million, claiming there’s not enough space “for large numbers of cyclists and pedestrians to safely co-exist.”

Upper East Side resident Dennis O’Donnell was headed back to Manhattan from Bergen County on May 27, 2017, after a training run along the shared path.

A cyclist struck O’Donnell, knocking him to the ground and leaving him cut and bruised, with his “arm broken in a way that required surgery and has resulted in long-term impairment of the use of his arm, elbow and wrist,” according to his Manhattan Supreme Court suit.

The 61-year-old man decided to continue running home, but by the time he reached W. 130th St., his arm was “throbbing so badly” that he went to the hospital.

O’Donnell, a bankruptcy lawyer, required surgery to mend his bones — but still only has “about 75%” of his arm function back.

The accident happened “due entirely to the negligent and reckless conduct of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey,” according to his suit.

The Port Authority declined to comment.
