OH SAY CAN YOU C-WORD?
It’s no ‘Grab ’em by the p---y,’ but Samantha Bee’s vulgar attack on Ivanka Trump has made America mad again. Is it ever OK for a woman to use this slur?
THE WHITE HOUSE came out full force against “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee on Thursday, demanding the comedian be canned for a vulgar rant about Ivanka Trump.
Bee blasted the First Daughter and White House adviser as a “feckless c—-t” on her TBS show Wednesday night in a tirade that resulted in lost advertisers and the White House tongue lashing. Both Bee and the network apologized for the crude remark, which was bleeped out on her show, but not online.
Bee had trashed Trump for posting an “oblivious tweet” of a photo with her son while her father’s immigration policies tear families apart.
“Let me just say, one mother to another, ‘Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c--t. He listens to you,” Bee said.
“Put on something tight and low cut and tell your father to f---ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, okay?”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders condemned the vulgar reference to President Trump’s daughter, calling it “vile and vicious.”
She also called on TBS to pull the show from its network.
“Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”
The network said Bee took “the right action in apologizing” to Trump for using “inappropriate language.”
“Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it,” TBS said in a tweet.
TBS made no mention of canceling the show or any disciplin-
ary action against Bee.
Bee issued an apology, saying, “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”
First Lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham stung Bee in a statement to the Daily Caller.
“The double standard is truly astounding,” Grisham said. “Time and again the Trump family and members of this administration are subjected to false reporting, hateful rhetoric and outrageous lies all in the name of freedom of speech or comedy, yet the mainstream media stays silent,” she said.
Show sponsors Autotrader and State Farm were quick to jump ship.
Autotrader called Bee’s comments “offensive and unacceptable” and said they “do not reflect the views of our company.”
“As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of ‘Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,’ ” the company said in a statement.
State Farm issued a statement saying, “We have asked TBS to suspend our advertising in the program and are reviewing any future placements. We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values,” The Wrap reported.
Donald Trump Jr. weighed in too, suggesting that no one who “said this about Michelle Obama or the Obama girls” would still have a TV show.
Earlier in the week, Trump Jr. retweeted Roseanne Barr calling George Soros “a Nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth.” Barr’s Twitter tirade led ABC to pull the plug on “Roseanne.” Social media users compared Barr’s racist remarks to Bee’s insult — echoing Grisham’s “double standard” statement. “#SamanthaBee stooped to a whole new level — so low I can’t even bring myself to link to what she said. I mean, it was just the most vulgar thing you could say to a woman. . . but it wasn’t ‘racist,’ so hey whatever, she can stay on the air . . .Comedy is not a good look these says,” said Twitter user @OrioleMom.
Others jumped to Bee’s defense, saying racism is inexcusable, while Bee was simply holding Trump accountable for her “inaction.”
“#SamanthaBee — big difference in calling out a public official who says she’s working for the people, on her INACTION and just using a racial slur. The difference is conditions,” said user @TDAM71.
Actress Sally Field also took umbrage at Bee’s remarks — but for a different reason.
“I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c---,” Field tweeted, saying the body part is “powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.”
