Mistrial in Long I. pol graft case

A MARATHON Long Island political corruption case ended in a mistrial Thursday.

Long Island federal jurors couldn’t come to a verdict on charges that former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, 56, swapped his political clout to help the restaurant business of Harendra Singh, a connected buddy who lavished him with meals, expensive chairs, hardwood floors and other upscale goodies.

They also couldn’t reach a decision about Mangano’s wife, Linda, 54, who was charged with lying to the feds and obstructing justice when the FBI questioned her about the sweetheart, six-figure job Singh gave her.

A prosecution spokesman said “the office intends to retry the Manganos.”

Edward Mangano’s lawyer, Kevin Keating, told the Daily News said the mistrial was “reflective of the lack of evidence in a case that never should have been brought” and he pledged to “fight it to the end.”

Thursday was the ninth day of deliberations in the 12-week case. Last week, the jury acquitted former Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto of all 27 counts against him.
