Schools spokeswoman taking NYPD gig
A TOP SCHOOLS official announced her plan to leave the city Education Department on Thursday — the second major staffing announcement at the agency in as many days.
Department of Education Communications Director Devora Kaye, who has served as chief spokeswoman for the agency since 2014, is leaving in July to start a new role as assistant commissioner for external affairs at the NYPD.
Kaye, 31, managed the day-to-day media operations at the department and played a central role in the development of school policy. A search for her replacement is underway.
Kaye said she’s honored to join the NYPD, where she’ll serve as a spokeswoman, lead press planning and help develop media strategy.
“I’m excited to share the department’s vision of neighborhood policing with all New Yorkers and support the brave women and men who keep our city the safest big city in America,” Kaye said.
