Girl, 17, gunned down in brawl on Bx. street
A 17-YEAR-OLD girl was shot to death during a large street fight in the Bronx, police said Sunday.
Vlana Roberts was mixed up in the brawl on Vyse Ave. near 181st St. in West Farms — about three blocks from her home — when she was shot in the upper back late Saturday, cops said.
Someone she knew drove her to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she arrived just before 11 p.m. Police were called to the hospital.
Doctors were unable to save her.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Roberts was the shooter’s intended target.
“Told God Take Out All The Negativity In My Life & I Almost Died,” Roberts wrote on Facebook the day before she died.
The eerie post had been shared more than 2,400 times by Sunday evening.
Dozens of heavy-hearted family members and friends gathered outside Roberts’ Boston Road building Sunday, crying and sharing hugs and words of consolation.
Gold and blue balloons — the colors of the Golden State Warriors, the slain girl’s favorite team — floated above the crowd. They played rapper Wiz Khalifa’s song “See You Again.”
“The tragedy is ongoing. There are too many guns in our communities,” said Ernesto Mal- d donado, a friend of the v victim’s family. “It was a g game to them. Now a life i is lost.”
Hundreds of people w who knew Roberts floode ed her Facebook page, s sharing their shock and r recalling favorite memor ries.
“You loved you some G Golden State, always p posted up in that same j jersey,” her friend Trent w wrote in a handwritten l letter, a photo of which he posted.
“No matter what mood I was in, you always knew how to cheer me up. For anyone that knew her, knew that this wasn’t her destiny. Vlana did not deserve this. She got along with everyone and made friends with anything.” There have been no arrests in the shooting.
