Cavs owner should be
RUN away, LeBron. There's no escaping Dan Gilbert’s audacity in Cleveland.
In case you missed it, the Cavs owner tweeted a thinly veiled congratulations to himself before Game 1 against the Warriors, claiming, quite amazingly, that the team would not be in the Finals if it weren't for its trades in the last year.
To be clear, Gilbert was referencing the deals that amounted to swapping Kyrie Irving, one of the most gifted offensive talents in the league, for a cast of scrubs that’s been largely unplayable in the Finals, including during the Warriors’ 122-103 victory Sunday night in Game 2.
“Trade 1.0 last summer & Trade 2.0 at the deadline led by a humble, talented, young GM: Koby Altman,” Gilbert tweeted. “W/o either of these 2 bold moves orchestrated by Koby & the @Cavs front office, we would not be here w/ a good chance to bring another one home to CLE.”
Here’s my response LOL.
The relevant back story is that Gilbert, on the heels of a third straight Finals appearance last June, essentially fired GM David Griffin because they had a ‘different vision,” according to ESPN.
Then Gilbert promoted Altman from assistant GM but the owner still was reportedly calling the shots while twice reshaping the Cavs’ roster since to that:
