Mich. State prof in dog sex bust

- David Boroff

A MICHIGAN STATE University physicist has been charged with bestiality.

Joseph Hattey was charged with two counts of bestiality for allegedly having sexual contact with a dog, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said Monday.

The criminal acts were not committed on campus or with an animal owned by the university, according to Schuette.

Hattey works as a health physicist in the school’s Environmental Health and Safety office. He had previously worked in Michigan State’s Veterinarian Diagnostic Laboratory, according to the Lansing State Journal.

The basset hound involved in the case is with Ingham County Animal Control.

Hattey, 51, was hit with the charges following a probe by animal control and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The university has paid $500 million to settle lawsuits over the crimes of former associate professor Larry Nassar, the USA Gymastics team doctor who is serving up to 125 years in prison for sexual abuse.
