’20 buzz is brewing as Starbucks CEO quits
STARBUCKS Executive Chairman Howard Schultz is retiring from the coffee retail giant after more than 20 years at the helm.
Schultz, who will step down June 26, said in a memo to employees Monday he’s “thinking about a range of options for myself, from “philanthropy to public service.”
Speculation has long swirled that Schultz — a 2016 backer of Hillary Clinton — might run for President. He has deflected questions about whether he would run for office.
The Brooklyn-born entrepreneur, 64, joined the company in 1981, when it was a decade-old chain of 11 coffee shops in the Seattle area. It now has 28,000 stores worldwide.
He served as CEO from 1986 to 2000 and again from 2008 until last year.
