‘Gut’ told me Shore police up to no good

- Dan Good

A WOMAN hit twice by a cop on a New Jersey beach said Wednesday she “didn’t see the point” in giving officers her name — and that the experience has been “emotionally exhausting.”

Emily Weinman, of Philadelphia, appearing on “Good Morning America,” said she’s suffered from neck and back pain since her May 26 arrest. Cops approached her after she was seen with a beer bottle she said was her aunt’s. Weinman, 20, agreed to take two Breathalyzer tests — and passed both — but declined to give cops her last name. She walked away as the situation escalated.

“Something in my gut was just telling me . . . something wasn’t right with the situation, and I just knew in my rights that I didn’t have to give them my name due to everything that they did,” she said.

Weinman said a 2016 arrest on burglary and other charges, according to court records, didn’t factor into her decision.

Viral video shows an officer punching Weinman in the head at least twice as she slumps on the sand. The video sparked outrage about police brutality, but prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said Tuesday he won’t bring criminal charges in the case.
