Weed, be gone: Pot in jail gets officer tossed
A JAILER’S career went up on smoke when he was caught smuggling pot into a Brooklyn lockup, authorities said Wednesday.
Correction Officer Patrick Gaillard was heading to work at the Brooklyn Detention Center on April 6 when a drug-sniffing dog smelled marijuana in his pants pocket, said court papers.
Gaillard claimed he’d found the 2 ounces of weed in the street and planned to turn it in at work.
But in a recorded phone call, inmate Adam Franco — who is being held on a fugitive warrant — told his girlfriend, Samantha Pereira, to pay Gaillard for the weed, said a criminal complaint.
All three were arraigned Wednesday in Brooklyn Supreme Court on charges including bribery and conspiracy. Gaillard and Pereira were freed on their own recognizance.
Gaillard, who earned $43,042, resigned April 11.
