Blockbuster for Bumgarner
made worse by the news that Jordan Montgomery will have season-ending Tommy John surgery on Thursday in New York.
Luis Severino has performed like an ace, but Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia have all been inconsistent. Domingo German is currently the team’s fifth starter, pitching to mixed results.
JUDGE IS BACK
Aaron Judge returned to the lineup on Wednesday after getting Tuesday off. Judge struck out eight times in Monday’s doubleheader in Detroit.
Aaron Boone says he isn’t concerned about Judge’s recent whiffs.
“I’m glad he’s back in the lineup because I like watching him play, and I’m quite confident that he’s going to give us those quality at-bats,” Boone said. “And hopefully in those at-bats hopefully we get some results. But no, I don’t worry about it. I think the at-bat quality will be there and I know the results will be there too over time.”
WARM WELCoME
Aaron Boone spoke with firstround pick Anthony Seigler, welcoming the switch-hitting catcher to the organization in a telephone conversation.
“He called me ‘yes, sir’ a lot,” Boone said. “It was kinda cool in a way, being able to welcome him. I’ve got to watch video and see his story (about being able to throw with both arms as well). We’re excited to get some more talented, high-character guys in our organization.”
