No ‘Justice’ for Obamacare case
THE JUSTICE Department will not defend Obamacare against a Republican-led lawsuit claiming the health care plan is unconstitutional and wants the court to scratch major parts of the law, according to an agency filing Thursday night.
Justice lawyers filed a letter in the case of 20 states attorneys general who have sued the federal government over the law.
DOJ lawyers want the court to ax provisions the stop insurers from canceling plans and charging higher rates for preexisting conditions. The agency also wants the court to lift bans on using age and gender as a basis for coverage costs.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Congress that he had gotten President Trump’s approval for the move.
