27 nabbed in Brooklyn drug sweep
WAVE GOODBYE.
Cops cuffed 27 drug dealers and gang members, many of them from the Wave crew, who peddled narcotics around several Brooklyn housing developments, the NYPD said Thursday.
The takedown followed a sixmonth investigation into people selling heroin, crack cocaine and oxycodone around Glenmore Plaza and the Seth Low and Van Dyke houses in Brownsville. Most of those arrested have prior felony beefs — including two for murder, and half for gun possession, cops said.
“You’re looking at the front lines of precision policing right here,” Chief of Detectives Dermont Shea told reporters Thursday.
“This narcotics takedown underscores the commitment of the NYPD and my office to improving the quality of life and the safety of the hardworking residents of public housing,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “We are determined to keep the scourge of drug dealing, and the violence that often accompanies it, out of our communities.”
Most of the defendants were arraigned Wednesday in Brooklyn Supreme Court, authorities said.
“The NYPD’s efforts to rid New York City of illegal narcotics and the violence associated with drug trafficking will not end,” said Police Commissioner James O’Neill.
