5 hurt as school bus flips
A SCHOOL bus filled with fifth-graders from a Brooklyn yeshiva overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday afternoon, sending four children and an adult to the hospital, authorities said.
The bus was returning from a day trip to an amusement park, and was heading back to the Mevakshai Hashem Yeshiva in Borough Park, said Rabbi Fishel Schachter, a board member at the school.
The vehicle rolled onto its side at about 4 p.m., near the Goethals Bridge in Elizabeth, Garden State police said.
Four children were taken to a Brooklyn hospital and an adult was sent to an Elizabeth, N.J., hospital, authorities said. All injuries were minor, police said. Several other students were checked out by medical personnel when they got back to the Ocean Parkway school.
“Thank God there were only a few minor injuries,” Schachter said. “It does not appear to be anything serious, and we’re all very thankful.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation, state police said.
