That’s why the urge to have Cespedes back this weekend is too big a risk. This team’s offense is built around him and while they have suffered while he’s been out, they will not be able to fight themselves back into relevancy if he’s not back for the long-term.

“I think a player of Cespedes’ caliber impacts the lineup greatly. You add one more guy into a lineup, especially a guy that can do some damage like Ces, there’s a whole new added dynamic,” Callaway said. “That can be huge. If you took (Manny) Machado out of (the Orioles) lineup right now, that’s a big, big thing. I think he’s a huge impact when he’s in the lineup.”

When he’s healthy, Cespedes certainly can make that impact. Now the Mets just have to remain cautious to keep him on his feet.
