Liberty falls to Sun on 4-point play at buzzer

Shekinna Stricklen had a four-point play at the buzzer to give the Connecticu­t Sun an 88-86 victory over the Liberty on Thursday night in White Plains.

Stricklen caught the ball on the wing off a pass from Jasmine Thomas and hit the shot and was fouled as time expired. After a brief review by the officials, the basket was ruled good. Stricklen shot the free throw with no time on the clock.

Tina Charles had 24 points for the Liberty (2-4). Houston topped road, 5-2.

l Joc Pederson went deep twice, Cody Bellinger hit his third home run in as many games and the Los Angeles Dodgers used nine pitchers to hold off host Pittsburgh, 8-7. Pederson led off the game with a blast off Jameson Taillon (3-5) and added a two-run shot in the eighth off Michael Feliz for his second multi-home run game in a week.

l Anthony Rizzo hit a solo homer and added a second RBI with a sacrifice fly to lead the Chicago Cubs past Philadelph­ia, 4-3, at home. Chicago won for the fifth time in six games to close to a half-game behind idle first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central. Tommy La Stella and Kris Bryant had RBI singles in Chicago’s decisive three-run fifth inning.

l Jesse Winker hit a two-run homer in the 13th, completing Texas on the Cincinnati’s late rally to a 7-5 home victory over Colorado. One out away from getting their second series sweep at Great American Ball Park, the Rockies blew the lead in the ninth and wound up losing for the fifth time in seven games.

l Miles Mikolas rebounded from his first loss of the season to pitch three-hit ball over seven innings and lead St. Louis over visiting Miami, 4-1. Mikolas (7-1) allowed an unearned run, struck out five and walked one, lowering his ERA to 2.27.
