NYCHA has 1 week
IF MAYOR de Blasio and the New York City Housing Authority don’t reach a settlement with the federal government in the next seven days, the state will go ahead and name an independent monitor for the beleaguered public housing system, Gov. Cuomo’s office said Friday.
Cuomo signed an executive order in April that required the creation of a NYCHA monitor, chosen by city officials, by last Friday — but he extended the deadline by a week as news broke that a settlement was near in the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s investigation into squalid conditions at public housing apartments.
This Friday, Cuomo’s office said it would allow one more extension before appointing a monitor itself.
