Ben’s Best goes deli up in Queens

- Joe Dziemianowicz

LAST CALL for the pastrami-onrye at a famous Queens deli.

Ben’s Best, a Kosher delicatessen in Rego Park, has posted a closing notice due to overly lean business.

Proprietor Jay Parker revealed plans to shutter the restaurant at 96-40 Queens Blvd. on its website on Thursday.

“Regretfully, after seventythree wonderful years, Ben’s Best will be closing its doors on Saturday June 30th. We are very grateful to everyone who has supported us and we hope to see you one last time.”

Parker is second-generation deli man. His father, Benjamin, opened the establishment in 1945. Since then it has become known for classic deli dishes.

Because of customer shrinkage in recent months, it’s been the worst of times for Ben’s Best.

Parker said in November that protected bike lanes installed in August by the Department of Transit and a cut of nearly 200 parking spaces were killing business.
